HISTORIC TOWN OF VIGAN
Vigan or Bigan is the world heritage city in Philippines and considered the most beautiful old town in the country, located in the west of Luzon island in Ilocos Sur province. It was built in the 16th century when Philippines became colonized by Spain. Vigan is the best model for the European trade in Asia with the good blend of Chinese and European cultures which make Vigan owns its unique architectural features.
Vigan city is located at the River of Abra which close to the South China Sea, at the historical preservation area between 2 rivers, Govantes and Mestizo. There is the old cathedral like Cathedral of Vigan, built in 1574 with neo-gothic style which is thick , strong, and a little shorter than other gothic cathedrals. As Philippines has many earthquake, most of its cathedrals will be thick and short.
Travel to Vigan
From Manila, you can take domestic flight to Lavak in 1.5 hours and then take tricycle to Partas station to get the bus to Vigan about 2 hours.
As Vigan is the world heritage city by Unesco, all the buildings are still in good condition. For further preservation, only horse carriage can be used in the city
Once you travel around city, you will feel like you are back in time to small city in Europe in 17th century because of its architecture.
