Mandalay was the former Capitol of Bagan. Now, it is the 3rd biggest city in Myanmar after Yangon and Naypyidaw. It is located in the middle of Myanmar, at the east of Iravadi River. Mandalay has a very unique and special traditions and cultures especially the historical sites such as temples and palaces.
1. The Mandalay Palace
It is the teakwood palace which is the most beautiful in Asia. The original was destroyed by fire left only the base, the fortress and the canal around the palace in the time of WW2 as it was the base of Japanese army. The palace has been rebuilt again in the same land and as original as it could be. There is also the model of Burma King and Queen with their full attire. Even though the new palace is not the same like the old one , yet is it one of the most amazing palaces in ASEAN.
2. Pra Maha Mai Muni Temple
It is the place where the sacred Buddha image of Myanmar located which made from gold with 7 ft. 4 inches tall. It was built in 689 (Buddhist year). Myanmar locals believe that he is alive so there is the ceremony for his face washing every day at 03:45 and the tanaka water that is used for his facewash will be given to locals to pray at home.
3. Schwenador Teakwood Palace
It was the part of Mandalay palace which built in the reign of King Mindong. It was made of the best teakwood and carved with the unique ancient Mandalay style with 5 roof layers, covered in bright gold. After that, it became the House of monk. It is considered the most beautiful and completed temple of Myanmar.
4. Mandalay Hill
It is the sacred Hill in the heart of the city that Myanmar people believe once in Buddhist Era, he came to show clemency to animals. There are many sacred statues up the hill for people to worship. There is one female giant statue whose cut her breast to the Buddha to beg him as she would like to become a man so she can be a monk in the next life. The pagoda Zutong on the top of the hill where 4 important Buddha images were located : Pra Kakun Sunto , Pra Gonakom, Pra Gussapa, and Pra Samana Kodom. The mountain top is also the best spot to see the view.
