Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar since 2005, now welcomes the tourists to visit. The name “Naypyidaw” literally means the place of the king or the great land. Naypyidaw is 320 kilometers far from Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar. At present, Naypyidaw is Myanmar’s third largest city, after Yangon and Mandalay. From being ordinary city, now Naypyidaw becomes the administrative center of the country, causing Naypyidaw gets on rank of top ten fastest growing cities in the world.
The terrain is probably the cause of capital change. Naypyidaw is located at the West of Pyanymana, Mandalay, almost the center of Myanmar. It has mountainous landscape, which offers better military benefit than Yangon.
In the past, Naypyidaw was a quiet upcountry with little population. There were not so much resources in the city. After government of Myanmar declared Naypyidaw as the capital city, they accelerated the construction of facilities: roads, buildings, etc. Naypyidaw quickly transforms from abandoned land into a city full of construction projects. It is started with the development of highway number 8 which connects Naypyidaw to Yangon. They constructed Uppatasanti Pagoda, the replica of Shwedagon Pagoda. They also built railway station, parks, fountains, zoo and shopping centers.
